The Child patrolled the water as she clapped and sang.
“Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can,
Pat it and prick it and mark it with B,
And bake it in the oven for baby and me.”
The Child |
She paused, looked down at the water to view the ocean floor.
No sight of Octavio.
She clapped again, singing,
“Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can…”
That Octavio needed time to go to the bottom of the ocean and come back seemed terribly long.
Where is he?
Her stomach growled.
“Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can,
Pat it and prick it and mark it with B,
And bake it in the oven for baby and me.”
Lily Pad |
She sat upright on Lily Pad perpendicular to the ocean floor. The water, calm, she only had to look down; the sea beneath her. A tinge of blue came in sight and squibs landed on Lily Pad.
“Oh, Octavio, I’m so happy you’re back.”
“No need to worry. I always come back.”
“Do you like it down there?”
“Yes, Child.”
Octavio |
“I wish I could be an octopus like you.”
“Oh, Child, you wouldn’t be happy.”
“Think so.”
“Know so. Your happiness lies in your aspiration and determination to achieve your purpose, Child.
“Oh, there you go, Octavio. Sounding just like The Prophet.”
“You asked.”
“So, what’s your purpose, Octavio?”

Pat Garcia

Did you hear about the octopus that escaped from its aquarium? He squished into a drain and no one expects to retrieve him. Maybe he'll meet Octavio someday . . .
ReplyDeleteYes, I did hear about that incident. Octopi are very intelligent.

"Pat-a-Cake" brings back so many memories--of being a child and of playing with children. So very sweet.

Lovely! Octopi are so intelligent; it's amazing to me they only live two years at most, or so I've heard.

I hope you are having a day as lovely as what I’m enjoying on my back porch this fine Tuesday.
Yes, they are intelligent. Many people don't recognize that. And you can send me some of that lovely weather you're having.

Cute, Patricia. Employing the gifts we've been given, after first recognizing them and believing we can carry it out and that to not share our gifts with others is selfish. Regarding the food, in my life it seems that the role of Italians is to feed me. It doesn't always occur to me when I have guests that I might feed them. When I am a guest of an Italian, he or she always feeds me. You'd think I would've learned that lesson by now.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the traditions I love about Italy and Italians. They feed you whether you're hungry or not. So, I've learned not to eat anything before I visit an Italian family because I know they will feed me.

We always want to be what we are not.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that true, and once we become what we thought we wanted to become, we find out it is not so grand and want to be someone else.

Singing a song about pancakes when waiting for food would make my hunger worse too. Lovely scene!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Sometimes the best way to overcome a difficult spot in your life is to sing a song.
