Welcome to our seventh IWSG Day of the year for 2024.
IWSG is a writers' support group created and led by Alex J. Cavanaugh.
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It's a haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
This group is an immense help to many of us who do not mind sharing our insecurities and successes or giving others encouragement and support.
So, if you are interested and would like to join, the link below will lead you directly to us.

Submissions: THE ALPHA/OMEGA CONTEST sponsored by RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB (RRBC)
This is my first competition in this short story event, which is required to be up on Amazon.com by July 4, 2024. My story, THE POWER OF TOUCH, is up on Amazon for pre-order across all Amazon stores until July 5.
This story is unique because of its collaboration with others who helped me get it published during a time of tremendous stress. One of the people who helped me was our Olga Godim. Many thanks, Olga, for a cover that perfectly befits the main character.
The awesome co-hosts for the July 3 posting of the IWSG are JS Pailly, Rebecca Douglass, Pat Garcia, Louise-Fundy Blue, and Natalie Aguirre!
My FAVORITE APPS FOR WRITING
In the past, I have used Microsoft Word. It has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and it is still my go-to for writing my articles, but I am switching to Scrivener to write my short stories and novels. I've had Scrivener for the longest time but have yet to use it. The learning curve was too steep for me. I've changed my mind since I formatted my first story in Vellum. I will return to Scrivener and try it with my mind open to learn the new changes.
Other than that, I used DAY ONE, similar to Evernote, which I stopped using because the price was too high. In DAY ONE, I put all my research, pictures, and timelines for whatever story I write.
Finally, I use the Agenda calendar to keep track of time. I usually write four hours daily, except on my Sabbath, when I don't work.
My all-time favorite App is DAY ONE. I've had it since DAY ONE began. It carries my journal, shopping lists, and everything else I take notes on or pictures I notice while walking.
Have a lovely month and Happy Fourth of July to all Americans.
Shalom shalom,
Pat Garcia
Congratulations on the short story release! Olga does great covers.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Day One. Thanks for the tip.
And thanks for co-hosting today!
I have heard the learning curve for Scrivener is steep, but people I know who use it, love it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your short story release! There are lots of people in our group that really like Scrivener too.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Day One, but it sounds like something I need for my NON-writing life. LOL Thanks for co-hosting. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats and good luck with your story! I too haven't heard of DAY ONE. But I'm going to check it out soon.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day:)!
Yay to the short story! It looks grabbing. I've never heard of Day One, so I'll be taking a peek at that. As to Scrivener, I tried but just couldn't warm up to it, but that might have been me being lazy on the learning side, too.
ReplyDeleteI still use Word, but I will need to look into other options when my ancient computer eventually dies. I’m getting lots of good ideas today!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you, Pat! Here's to a smashing success with your short story! Olga did a great job on the cover.

Hello Pat! Congratulations on the short story. The cover is great and Olga has done a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that cover!! Congrats! I'm still a Word holdout. The learning curve for this old dog is too steep and keyboard time too short to explore other options now.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of One Day 'til you shared. Now, I've got to have it. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the cover of your new story. Good luck!

It's a beautiful cover, and I'm wishing you success in the contest!
ReplyDeleteI also suffered from discouragement over the steep learning curve for Scrivener. And I seem to do okay with Word, and a notebook and pen for doing a lot of the stuff that software does for other people :D
This is the first time I've heard of Day One. Do you use the free version of the membership version?
ReplyDeleteOlga Godim did a great job creating your book cover. Nice of you to promote her work.
Thanks for co-hosting today.
I’m impressed with all those things you use. Thanks for co-hosting today š
ReplyDeleteI'm a Scrivener fan, too. I'll have to check out Day One. @samanthabwriter from

Thanks for sharing some apps I've not heard of or used. I stick with WORD, buttressed by Grammerly and ProWriting Aid. Kind of like it 'takes a village' to write. It's all good - and Happy 4th of July to you, too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about Scrivener. I'm considering checking it out. Good luck! Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI haven't learned Scrivener either and ended up abandoning it after a NaNoWriMo trial. I hope you find it to be a useful tool. Thanks for co-hosting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out, Pat. I use Word for my writing. I have been using it for years, I know it, and I don't plan on switching to a different word processor any time soon. Familiar software is always easier for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for cohosting, Pat, and congratulations on the short story! I've never heard of Day One, sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look into Day One. I currently use the Notes app on my phone and laptop, but it's definitely tough to keep track of everything and I'm always looking for a better way to organize. Thanks for the recommendation. Happy belated IWSG day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for co-hosting and congratulations on your publication!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out Day One and Agenda (messing with new software is one of my favorite ways to avoid writing :-) ). The trick for learning Scrivener is to learn just what you need to know at any given time. Then when you need to learn another feature, you can search for it in the tutorial or Google how to do it. The basics are pretty simple - create a new project and start writing. Learn the rest when you need to.
Bravo, Pat, on your submission for the contest. All the luck with this. I LOVE the cover. Great work, Olga!
ReplyDeleteThanks for cohosting for IWSG this month, Pat. Stay strong!
Pat, thank you for co-hosting!! Have a wonderful summer!
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! And good luck! Good luck, also, in learning Scrivener. I use it in a pretty basic sense, though I know it can do a lot more; I just don't need the other stuff it does. One of my friends knows how to do all the fancy stuff and frequently teaches workshops at writing conferences. I haven't heard of Agenda and Day One.
ReplyDeletecongrats on your short story!
ReplyDeleteand i hadnt heard of day one--i'll check it out!
happy july
